4 Common Uses for EDCO Concrete Floor Grinders

An EDCO Concrete Floor Grinder uses multiple accessories to complete many applications, making it one of the most versatile pieces of surface preparation equipment available. It’s the one machine you need to complete all kinds of tasks.

Here are 4 moneymaking uses for the EDCO Concrete Floor Grinder:

1 – LEVELING CONCRETE SURFACES
Fifty years ago this machine was invented to level concrete surfaces. Before EDCO, contractors were forced to level concrete by hand or with crudely modified floor buffers. Our invention freed them to grind concrete while standing comfortably. Concrete must be level before tile or carpet installation. Using the EDCO Dyma-Serts these grinders will level concrete floors, smooth rough surfaces, and remove concrete imperfections.

2 – REMOVING THIN AND HARD COATINGS
Again using the Dyma-Serts, the Concrete Floor Grinders quickly remove thinner, hard coatings like Paint, Epoxy Thin-Coats, Mastic, and Thin-Set. The Dyma-Serts smooth concrete while removing, thus creating level surfaces ready for new coatings.

3 – REMOVING THICK SOFT COATINGS
Trying to grind thicker, soft coatings is time consuming as these coatings smear. Instead of grinding, the carbide tipped Strip-Serts quickly strip away soft coatings by riding on top of concrete surfaces. Tacky surfaces of Tar, Fiberglass, Mastics, Ice, Paint and Tile Glue are no match for this accessory. Pour sand onto the concrete when removing Tile Glue. The sand balls up the glue after the Strip-Serts slice through it. The glue is then easily swept away.

4 – REMOVING INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH COVERINGS
Water-Proofing Membrane, Urethane, Pool Deck Coatings, Multi-Part Epoxy and thick Mastic are designed to permanently adhere to concrete surfaces. Unfortunately these coverings often fail. It takes an industrial strength accessory like PCDyma-Serts to remove these industrial coatings. PCD’s (Polycrystalline Diamonds) are 4 times stronger than carbide and are designed to aggressively rip through anything they contact. The PCDymas leave grooved concrete finishes.

Thanks to everyone who visited our booths at the True Value, World of Concrete and ARA conventions. Our staff always enjoys reconnecting with customers and discovering what they need.

During the shows, many customers inquired about the EDCO Tile Shark:

The EDCO Tile Shark is a walk behind electric floor stripper that’s designed to remove vinyl tile, linoleum, VCT and carpet. Using an electric motor the Shark runs on either 115 or 230 volt and comes standard with a 25ft power cord. With a collapsible handlebar and a weight of only 150lbs, the Tile Shark is easy to transport and requires little storage space. With a standard Rigid Blade, it can remove approximately 200 sqft of vinyl tile per hour.

For this machine there are 3 types of Scraper Blades:.

1. The 8" Scraper Blade is for general purpose applications and designed to remove vinyl, VCT, linoleum and other soft materials. A 5-Pack of these blades is included with all Tile Shark purchases.

2. The 8” Slicer Blade is extremely sharp and designed to slice carpet and linoleum into strips.

3. The Foam Rubber Backing Blade is 12” wide and removes the difficult rubber backing sometimes found under carpet.

To use the Tile Shark, slowly move it into the floor coverings. The machine’s oscillating blade should slice into the material and remove it from the floor. While the blade does most of the work, you must continuously push the machine through the coverings. For additional leverage, place a foot on the back of the machine and push with your legs.

To change the blade’s pitch, simply use the angle adjustment lever located beneath the handlebars. Different blade angles are better for different floor coverings and surfaces. For instance, when removing coverings from concrete floors the Tile Shark’s pitch should be steep. The pitch should be flatter when removing coverings from wood floors.

If having difficulties beginning a removal pass, use the corners of the blade and work the machine into the covering. Many times, the Tile Shark runs smoother when using half of the blade instead using the entire scraping surface.

EDCO has exhibited at the World of Concrete convention for over 30 years. In 2010, the event will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, on February 1st through the 5th. The World of Concrete is the commercial concrete and masonry construction industries' premiere international event. The occasion is a chance for industry suppliers to feature tools and equipment, innovative solutions and new technologies. This year Equipment Development Company will have three booths: one inside the concrete repair pavilion (South Hall BOOTH# S10139) and two outside demo booths (#O30741 & #O30747). The inside display booth will contain a wide variety of products, while the two outside demo booths will provide the opportunity to see machines in action and run them for yourself. One outside demo booth will feature EDCO surface repair products while the other will feature CONTRx Systems concrete polishing equipment.

For over 50 years, Equipment Development Company has been an active participant of the annual American Rental Association Convention. This year EDCO will once again be part of The Rental Show when it's held in Orlando, Florida, February 7-10. In addition to exhibiting products, we are supporting ARA by conducting seminars and sponsoring convention events. STAND UP AND GRIND TIGHTLY AGAINST ANY VERTICAL SURFACE WITH EASE

This multi-purpose machine will Truly Take You To The Edge! It can be used as a polishing machine that is portable, easy to use and perfect for polishing around columns, along walls, other vertical surfaces as well as in tight areas. The 7” working width will polish 500-600 lineal feet per hour. It comes standard with a 4-position handle and a 4-position dust shroud allowing for maximum operator control. The answer is the EDCO CPM-8 Scarifier.

Although the machine is primarily known for its concrete and asphalt milling capabilities, the CPM8 is much more than a one-trick-pony. In fact, there are many reasons to purchase a CPM8. If you already own one, there may be other moneymaking applications you’ve never considered. For example, EDCO’s CPM8 Scarifier can be used to remove floor coverings, traffic lines, and level off the often-overlooked sidewalk trip hazard. Looking for more applications? The CPM8 can be used to clean surfaces and prepare them for new coatings. If you still aren’t convinced of the CPM-8’s versatility, consider this question: Do you have an outside ramp that becomes a slip hazard every time it rains? If so the machine can groove concrete and create non-slip surfaces that prevent falls.

The most popular accessory for the CPM-8 is the Tungsten Carbide Cutter. For milling and removal projects, fit the rotating drum with 78 cutters to create a general purpose set up. When I remove trip hazards I prefer to use 90 Carbides. More cutters create a tighter scarifying pattern. The hazard is removed leaving a perfect non-slip surface. Setting up a grooving pattern is a breeze; simply measure the groove needed and install the carbides accordingly. These accessories also remove Thermal Plastic Traffic Lines. To remove Painted Traffic Lines, use the EDCO Pointed Steel Cutters. These cutters are less aggressive and leave a finer textured surface. The Pointed Steel Cutters are also great for thicker elastomeric and rubber based coatings.
